XVI Summer Diplomatic Games in the Resort Complex Zavidovo
The end of summer in the calendar of GlavUpDK was marked with a large-scale sports festival traditionally timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Main Administration. On 23 August, 2014 the representatives of more than 40 embassies and employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and GlavUpDK gathered in the resort complex Zavidovo to determine the best amateur sportsmen in a fair and uncompromising contest among diplomats.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Games, Mr. Pashko, the head GlavUpDK expressed gratitude to heads and employees of diplomatic missions, for many of which participation in Summer Diplomatic Games has become a good tradition, and noted that GlavUpDK as the "administration of hospitality" strives to create maximum comfort for work and leisure of diplomats. Mr. Pashko also expressed hope that all guests of the sports festival would receive a boost of energy, optimism and good mood regardless of their sport results.
L.E. Titova, repeated Olympic champion and chief referee of the championship, along with the Olympic Committee of Russia sent their compliments to the participants of the Summer Diplomatic Games. Management of the Olympic Committee of Russia extended its gratitude for the sports events held by GlavUpDK, which "bring people together, boost confidence and mutual understanding and, eventually, work on the formation of a positive image of Russia.
Unusually hot weather escalated the heat of the contest on the sports fields both in team-based and individual sports. Numerous spectators actively supported their teams cheering at every scored goal or successful pitch. Based on the results of the championships, the teams of embassies of Azerbaijan, Slovakia and Poland became prizewinners in football, and Kyrgyz diplomats were in the top three in volleyball. Representatives of the Chinese embassy demonstrated good results in tennis. Representatives of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan embassies joined the ranks of prizewinners.
