11.12.2023

Main Administration for Service to the Diplomatic Corps (GlavUpDK) under the MFA of Russia summed up the results of the 2nd Architecture of Diplomacy All-Russian Creative Competition, which was held among young artists aged 18 to 35. The competition laureates were able to visit Zinaida Morozova Mansion, one of the most beautiful landmarks, which is now used as the Reception House of the MFA of Russia, as well as to meet famous cultural, public and government figures.

To celebrate the Year of Music and the 150th anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff, the participants took on the concept of Architecture Is Frozen Music. Young artists were asked to draw parallels between music of Russian composers and mansions known as architectural landmarks under the patronage of GlavUpDK under MFA of Russia.

The event participants were greeted by Alexander Sukhoruchenko, Chief Advisor of GlavUpDK under the MFA of Russia, and Vasily Nioradze, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the MFA of Russia.

Vyacheslav Fatin, Head of GlavUpDK under the MFA of Russia, also sent greetings to the competition winners. “This year, the number of works and the geographic coverage of participants have increased. Architecture of Diplomacy brought together young artists from 31 Russian regions.
It was a pleasure to see familiar names among this year’s laureates - the winners of the 2022 competition. We are happy to promote your creative development! The theme of this year’s competition, Architecture Is Frozen Music, might seem complicated at first glance. But we are positive that painting, architecture and music are related arts. The unity inspires unusual creative experiments and showcases the original and aesthetic vision,” the document says.

Vasily Nioradze also addressed the guests of the Reception House and highlighted that last year they came up with the idea of holding a competition combining architecture and diplomacy and now they are witnessing the emergence and strengthening of this tradition. “The competition participants were given a non-trivial task - to combine music and architecture through art. However, these two philosophies - the architecture of music and the music of architecture - are mutually flowing trends.
Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Camille Saint-Saëns conveyed this idea.  Our artists were tasked to express the competition concept in art. Creative search of the laureates has proved that real winners are now here in the hall,” emphasized V. Nioradze.

The jury, Oksana Goncharova, Director, Russian Center for Artistic Creation Development and Humanities, Elena Gryaznova, Deputy Chairman, International Activity Department of the Union of Artists of Russia, Pavel Gusev, Editor-in-Chief, Moskovsky Komsomolets, Zurab Tsereteli, President, Russian Academy of Arts, Nikolay Shumakov, President, Union of Architects of Russia, also congratulated the winners of the Architecture of Diplomacy competition.

Competition laureates, including Igor Borisov, Elizaveta Vasilyeva, Anna Katukhina, Ksenia Mokrova, Norik Musoyan, Ksenia Solontsova, Anastasia Fedulova, Anastasia Chernykh and Anna Shelukhina, were presented with certificates by Alexander Sukhoruchenko.

In addition, the winner in the Choice of the GlavUpDK Team Category, Evgeny Zhivchik, was announced. The audience award was presented by Robert Markaryan, Chairman of the Trade Union Committee of GlavUpDK under the MFA of Russia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation.

On behalf of the laureates, Anna Shelukhina thanked the organizers for the opportunity to participate in the competition and for the Architecture of Diplomacy 2023 theme, which became a professional challenge, source of inspiration and creative search.

The event ended with a tour of the mansion led by Alexey Ochnev, Chief Architect of GlavUpDK under the MFA of Russia.
