Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin opened the PRO Restoration. Import Substitution in Restoration Materials and Technologies exhibition, which takes place in the building of Sytin’s printing house (71 Pyatnitskaya Street, Moscow) until December 3. As part of the first day of the exhibition, the Moscow Restoration 2023 award ceremony, which annually recognizes the best restoration projects, was held.
“The capital has launched an unprecedented program to preserve cultural heritage sites. Over the 13 years, about 2,200 landmarks have been restored. This year alone, over 1,800 permits have been issued to carry out different works to preserve heritage sites.
This means that specialists in this industry have new projects and new achievements ahead. I would like to thank all the laureates of the Moscow Restoration competition for their love of their work and our unique city, for their expertise, great talent and art of restoring beauty,” noted S. Sobyanin.
This year, Main Administration for Service to the Diplomatic Corps (GlavUpDK) under the MFA of Russia won in the City Estates Category for the best repair and restoration work in the City Estate of A.G. Shchepochkina - N.A. Lvov (with an outbuilding, 19th century, by V. Gavrilov). Vyacheslav Fatin, Acting Head of GlavUpDK, was presented with the award and laureate certificate by Alexey Emelyanov, Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage of the City of Moscow.
GlavUpDK actually “saved the life” of this unique building erected in 1821. Located at 8/2 Spasopeskovsky Pereulok, the mansion was rebuilt several times and changed its design, and the wooden frame and white stone base fell into disrepair. Many of the façade and basement elements have deteriorated over the two hundred years since construction, with rot and wood engraver damage. A plinth of white stone blocks was also found under the layer of later concrete facing.
The work has made it possible to restore the building to its former glory with its singular architectural elements and functional solutions conceived during construction. In addition, much effort has been put into restoring and preserving the white-stone basement: the basement brickwork was repaired, and the bottom of the façade posts were cleaned out, with lost elements replaced.
The PRO Restoration. Import Substitution in Restoration Materials and Technologies event organized by the Russian Association of Restorers and supported by the Moscow Government is being held for the second time. The exhibition showcases more than 100 advanced solutions and technologies to preserve heritage sites. In addition, it includes art workshops and lectures, panel sessions, discussions, lectures and presentations.
