On September 24, the House of Reception of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the 5th meeting of the literature and music series ‘Literary Salon: Ambassadors of Russian Culture’. The event was dedicated to the outstanding writer and classic of Russian literature Ivan Turgenev.

Run by GlavUpDK under the MFA of Russia in collaboration with Dahl Museum of the History of Russian Literature, it aims to showcase the beauty of the Russian language and broaden cultural and humanitarian ties.

The meeting was opened by the permanent host of the Literary Salon, the museum’s Director Dmitry Bak. “Turgenev created the image of Russian literature throughout the world. He was not just a person who wrote perfect literature, but was a bearer of unique life experience,” he said.

The highlight was however a musical performance by Elmira Karakhanova, a Bolshoi Theater leading soloist.

According to the tradition, the entrance hall of the House of Reception offered a thematic exhibition sourced from the Dahl Museum’s holdings to highlight the creative path and life of Ivan Turgenev.

The hosts also presented the writer’s bust by sculptor Grigory Pototsky.

The ‘Literary Salon: Ambassadors of Russian Culture’ education and culture project, organized by GlavUpDK under the MFA of Russia in partnership with the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V. I. Dal, helps members of foreign diplomatic corps gain insight into the heritage of Russian poets and commentators on public affairs. Meetings focused on Fyodor Tyutchev, Alexander Griboyedov, Alexander Pushkin and Fyodor Dostoevsky have taken place since 2023.
