17.11.2023

Main Administration for Service to the Diplomatic Corps (GlavUpDK) under the MFA of Russia has launched a new version of the Cultural Heritage Sites website to tell connoisseurs of architecture and history about the unique mansions that are under the economic jurisdiction of the Enterprise.

GlavUpDK supervises more than 130 Moscow mansions, which are high-priority heritage sites for housing diplomatic and other foreign missions in Moscow. The opportunities to visit these mansions - masterpieces by Fyodor Schechtel, Lev Kekushev, William Walcot, magnificent examples of Neoclassicism, Gothic Revival, Eclecticism, Art Nouveau and Russian Revival - are very limited.

GlavUpDK is primarily the only custodian of reliable information, archival and new photographs associated with the mansions. Read these materials on the updated thematic website, which tells visitors about the architectural features of old mansions that form the indescribable historical architecture of the capital and amazing lives of their owners - iconic personalities of bygone eras - and world famous architects.

The website features a new and distinctive design but also modern functionality. Improved navigation using the map of cultural heritage sites will allow visitors to find the mansions of interest by year of construction, name of creator or architectural style.

The Retrospective section will help you delve into the past of Moscow and travel through time by exploring the historical photographs of buildings. The Virtual Tours section opens the doors of closed mansions, inviting you to walk through them and explore the interior elements. Curious historical facts and observations of people of the era are available in the Moscow Stories section. The website also shows the rarest illustrated albums called Ambassadorial Moscow, Moscow Mansions, Mansion. Masterpiece Revival published by GlavUpDK. In addition, the service tells its users about GlavUpDK’s numerous projects aimed at preserving and promoting cultural heritage sites.

Architecture lovers will be impressed by the Expert Opinion section, where industry leaders will talk about their own career path, restoration, preservation and popularization of heritage sites. In the near future, the website will publish interviews with Dmitry Shvidkovsky, the chancellor of the Moscow Institute of Architecture, Nikolay Shumakov, the president of the Union of Architects of Russia, the director of the Shchusev Museum of Architecture, Mikhail Zhebrak, the host of the On Foot TV show on the Culture TV channel. You can now read an interview with Vitaly Kalashnikov, the historian, guide, author of the historical project on the Moscow 24 TV channel.

Stay tuned - the website regularly publishes new materials: videos, photographs, texts and columns.
