The second meeting of the series “Literary Salon: Ambassadors of Russian Culture” was held at the House of Reception of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

On the eve of the celebration of the Diplomatic Workers’ Day which is celebrated in Russia on February 10, the first meeting in the series of literary and musical evenings titled “Literary Salon: Ambassadors of Russian Culture” at the House of Reception of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation was held.

This cultural and educational project, organized by GlavUpDK under the MFA of Russia in partnership with the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V. I. Dal, is designed to familiarize foreign diplomatic corps with the heritage of Russian writers and demonstrate the beauty of the Russian language, as well as to expand cultural and humanitarian ties.

The project was presented in September 2023. Dedicated to the 220th anniversary of the birth of poet and diplomat Fyodor Tyutchev, the meeting was opened by Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, who noted: “In the period of international turbulence, with the hybrid war, literally, launched against us and Russophobia becoming commonplace in the ruling circles of Western countries, this initiative undeniably deserves our full support.

This time the “Literary Salon” was dedicated to the works of the writer, playwright, pianist and composer, diplomat Alexander Sergeevich Griboyedov.

The evening was opened by Vyacheslav Nikolaevich Fatin, Head of GlavUpDK: “It is symbolic that we meet the eve of the Diplomatic Workers’ Day here – at the Literary Salon.” And our gift for the professional holiday was the Russian Heritage magazine, which dwells on the cultural heritage our country is proud of.” Vyacheslav Nikolaevich separately thanked the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V. I. Dal and the Historical and Documentary Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia for their active participation in the preparation and organization of the event.

Vladimir Ivanovich Masalov, member of the Presidium of the Union of Writers of Russia, poet and diplomat, also addressed the guests and read out a greeting from Nikolay Fedorovich Ivanov, Chairman of the Union.

The host of the evening was Dmitry Petrovich Bak, Director of the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V. I. Dal, who told both well-known and rare facts related to the creative activity and diplomatic career of A. S.Griboyedov.

 According to the established tradition, a thematic exhibition from the funds of the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V. I. Dal and the Historical and Documentary Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia was presented, familiarizing with the creative path and biography of A. S.Griboyedov. The Museum-Reserve of A. S.Griboyedov “Khmelita” also took part in the organization of the exposition.

The event was held in an immersive format and moved the guests into the atmosphere of the 19th century – the invitees were met by actors in historical costumes of the 1820s. The cultural program of the evening included the performance of a duet of harpists and the performance of romances on the poems of A. S.Griboyedov. The highlight of the evening was a fragment of the play “Woe from Wit” performed by Valery Yaremenko and Dmitry Scherbina, Honored Artists of the Russian Federation.
